Major league baseball player and home run record holder, Barry Bonds, posed for this mug shot after he was indicted on perjury and obstruction of justice charges related to the government’s investigation of BALCO (Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative) drug sports scandal. Allegedly Bonds lied about taking performance-enhancing drugs provided by BALCO. Bonds’ trial began on March 21, 2011 in the Federal Court in the Northern District of California. A jury convicted Bonds of one count of obstructing justice and remained deadlocked on the remaining three charges. Bonds tried to get the Judge to order a mistrial or to acquit him of the one conviction but the Judge refused. Bonds will be sentenced on December 16, 2011.
